We know that the early years of a child’s life are crucial to their development and our practitioners work to ensure that every child gets the best possible start in their education at our nursery.

Early Years Foundation Stage Framework

At Start Well Learning we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework to ensure that every child’s time in nursery helps prepare them for starting school and lays a solid foundation for their future learning.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is how the Government and Early Years professionals describe the time in your child’s life between birth and age 4. The EYFS Framework outlines how and what your child should be learning to support their healthy development. This framework underpins everything we do here at nursery, and is firmly embedded throughout our daily practice.

Children learn by playing and exploring, being active and thinking creatively and critically. The professionals teaching and supporting your child will make sure that activities are suited to your child’s unique needs.

We encourage children to develop the 4 Prime Areas outlined by the EYFS Framework. These Prime Areas are those most essential for

your child’s healthy development and future learning:

  • Communication & Language

  • Physical Development

  • Personal, Social & Emotional Development

  • Unique Child

As children grow, we expand on these skills and support children to develop skills in 4 specific areas. These are:

  • Literacy

  • Mathematics

  • Understanding the World

  • Expressive Arts & Design

Management and staff continuously reflect in many ways on their practice and provision as part of the Self Evaluation process. We take advice and guidance from both Local Authority and Company support.

We have a clear operational plan for our nursery and a detailed Ofsted Self Evaluation. This Self Evaluation is designed to inform the reader about the way our nursery operates and how the EYFS Framework is embedded throughout our practice.
